Excavation and Sitework in Groveland, FL

Land clearing, grading and site prep before fences, pavers and landscaping

Excavation and sitework is the part of a yard project nobody notices once it's finished, and the part everything else sits on. Randolph Outdoor clears, digs and grades the ground before fences, pavers, sod and plants go in, using our own crews and equipment. Family owned since 2009.

How we prep it

How Randolph Outdoor Gets the Ground Ready

  • Clear and rough grade

Brush, roots, old sod and broken concrete come out first. Then the ground is shaped so it falls the way water should go, away from the house and toward a spot that can take it.

  • Dig to the right depth

A paver patio or driveway is only as good as what's under it. We excavate to the depth the job calls for, lay a compacted aggregate base and run it with plate compactors so nothing settles later.

  • Finish grade

The last pass smooths the soil where sod and beds will go, blends it into the patio edge and the neighbor's yard, and amends poor soil so new plants have something to root into.

Why it matters here

Why Sitework in Lake County Can't Be Rushed

  • Built on fill: Many new lots are raised with trucked-in fill that has little organic matter and doesn't match the soil underneath. Left loose, it settles unevenly, and pavers or a fence line settle with it.

  • Summer storms find low spots: Grade that looks flat in March can turn into a pond in August. Getting the slope right at this stage is cheaper than drainage fixes after sod is down.

  • Lines underground: Florida law says anyone digging must contact Sunshine 811 at least two full business days ahead, so utility owners can mark their buried lines.

What Our Customers Say

  • The sales guy Geoff Spears couldn't be more responsive, even to the point of helping the installers unload. They arrived a day early than scheduled and worked hard until the job was completed. The Installers were meticulous in building the fence and cleaned up entirely when they left. This company is excellent!

Questions

Sitework Questions From Lake County Homeowners

  • Yes. Florida's damage prevention law applies to anyone digging, homeowners included. Contact Sunshine 811 at least two full business days before you start, not counting weekends and holidays, and wait for the lines to be marked. If Randolph Outdoor is doing the digging, we handle the call.

  • Clearing, grading and excavation come first. For hardscapes and pavers, the ground is dug to depth and a compacted base goes in. For sod and beds, the soil is graded, amended where it's poor and smoothed so water runs off evenly.

  • Builders often bring in fill to raise the lot, and UF/IFAS notes that fill is usually low in organic matter. Grass and plants struggle in it. Grading, soil amendment and the right plants fix most of it. See how our landscaping team handles new yards.
