Why aluminum

Why Aluminum Works Around a Pool

A fence around a pool has two jobs: keep small children out, and still look good from the lanai. Aluminum does both. The powder-coated finish handles Florida sun and humidity without rust or repainting, and open pickets keep your view.

  • Built for pool code

Picket spacing and rail placement chosen so the fence can't be used as a ladder.

  • Gates that match

Pool gates in the same style, with self-closing hinges and self-latching hardware.

  • Low upkeep

Rinse it off with a hose. No sanding, staining or painting.

Florida pool barrier rules

Florida Pool Barrier Rules, in Plain English

Florida requires a safety feature on every new home pool, and a barrier is the most common one. The basics, from Florida's pool barrier law (Section 515.29) and the Florida Building Code:

  • At least 4 feet tall, measured on the outside.

  • No gap a young child could crawl under or squeeze through: openings under 4 inches, and no more than 2 inches at the ground.

  • Gates open outward, away from the pool, and close and latch on their own. The latch release sits on the pool side, or at least 54 inches up from the bottom of the gate.

  • If a house wall forms one side, the doors and windows facing the pool need their own protection, such as exit alarms or self-closing, self-latching doors.

  • Nothing beside the fence a child could climb, like an AC unit or planter.

These are statewide basics. Your city or Lake County building department enforces them and can add its own rules, so confirm with them before you build. Randolph Outdoor handles fence permit applications for you.

What Our Fence Customers Say

  • The sales guy Geoff Spears couldn't be more responsive, even to the point of helping the installers unload. They arrived a day early than scheduled and worked hard until the job was completed. The Installers were meticulous in building the fence and cleaned up entirely when they left. This company is excellent!

Questions

Questions From Lake County Pool Owners

  • At least 4 feet, measured on the outside, with no openings a young child could fit through or climb. Gates must swing away from the pool and close and latch on their own. Your local building department has the final say, so check with them too.

  • Sometimes. The question is whether a child could climb it. Rails on the outside can work like ladder rungs, and some inspectors won't pass a 4-foot vinyl privacy fence because of them. Taller panels or another style may pass. Compare every fence material we install, then ask us before you order.

  • Most fence installations take one to three days. Larger yards or an automatic gate can add time. Randolph Outdoor will give you a schedule with your free estimate, including time for a permit if your project needs one.
